Some people spend their lives pursuing wealth. Others pursue success, power, or recognition.
At the age of seventeen, Mark Prather chose a different path. He chose to pursue the truth.
That decision became the defining pursuit of his life and ultimately led to the creation of
Warriors in Christ.
Humble Beginnings
Mark was born in 1958 at Los Angeles General Hospital to parents who were both only eighteen years old. Neither had graduated from high school, and the family struggled financially throughout much of his childhood.
Searching for work, his parents moved frequently, causing Mark to attend seven different schools before reaching the fourth grade.
While attending junior high school in Compton, California, Mark witnessed a tragedy that profoundly impacted his life. Immediately after school one afternoon, he watched four teenagers fatally stab another student in the hallway.
His parents soon made the decision to move the family to Buena Park, California, believing their children deserved a safer future.
Those early experiences taught Mark that life is fragile, choices matter, and every person must eventually decide who they are becoming.
Building a Business
Mark graduated early from John F. Kennedy High School and enrolled at Cypress College. After one semester, he realized his calling was entrepreneurship rather than a traditional college education.
At just eighteen years old, he earned his California real estate license and began his career in real estate.
After one year, he transitioned into mortgage lending. Three years later, at only twenty-two years old, he founded Mark 1 Mortgage.
Over the next four decades, Mark built the company into one of Southern California’s leading independent mortgage firms, growing to sixteen locations with as many as 350 sales professionals.
Today, more than forty-five years later, Mark 1 Mortgage continues helping families achieve homeownership and build financial security.
Mark also founded the Mark 1 Real Estate Wealth Academy, where he teaches homeowners and investors how to use real estate as a powerful tool for building long-term wealth and financial freedom.
Seeing What Others Didn't
In April 2004, years before the national housing collapse, Mark publicly warned consumers about the dangerous growth of subprime mortgage lending.
His warnings appeared in numerous media outlets, including ABC7 Los Angeles, KCAL 9, The Wall Street Journal, REALTOR® Magazine, SmartMoney.com, Inman News, and many others.
His predictions proved remarkably accurate as the housing market collapsed and millions of Americans faced foreclosure.
Mark’s commitment has always been to tell the truth—even when it is unpopular.
The Question That Changed Everything
While Mark was building his business, another journey had already begun. Throughout his childhood, his father insisted there was no God. At the same time, several of Mark’s closest friends believed deeply in Jesus Christ.
Faced with these two completely different worldviews, Mark found himself asking one question that would shape the rest of his life:
Does God exist?
Rather than blindly accepting either answer, he made a life-changing decision.
He committed himself to pursuing the truth wherever it would lead. For nearly five decades, Mark has studied Scripture, philosophy, science, history, theology, and the evidence surrounding the existence of God. His search has never been about defending a religious belief. It has always been about discovering what is true.
A Journey of Radical Faith
Over the years, Mark believes God has revealed Himself not only through evidence but also through personal experience.
His journey has included numerous extraordinary answers to prayer and what he believes are miraculous interventions.
Among them are three remarkable medical healings:
- Recovery from severe heart damage following a massive heart attack.
- Healing from more than thirty years of chronic back problems.
- Recovery from cancer in 2024.
These experiences—and the lessons learned through them—are shared in his book In Pursuit of the Truth.

Why Warriors in Christ Exists
After nearly fifty years of pursuing truth, Mark reached an important conclusion.
Most people are not living below their potential because they lack intelligence or opportunity. They are living below their potential because they have never been taught how to answer life’s greatest questions. Questions such as:
- Does God exist?
- Why am I here?
- What is the purpose of my life?
- How do I build an amazing life?
- How do I develop genuine faith instead of simply holding beliefs?
- What kind of person am I becoming?
Warriors in Christ was created to help people answer these questions and begin the greatest journey of their lives.
Its mission is to help people discover truth, develop wisdom, build unshakable faith, and become the person God created them to be.
My Mission
My life’s mission is to inspire and increase the power of faith in humanity by helping people discover truth, build wisdom, and live the extraordinary life God created them to live.
I believe every person has been created with incredible purpose and unlimited potential.
My hope is that Warriors in Christ becomes a place where people find answers to life’s greatest questions, develop genuine faith, experience the transforming power of God, and begin building the amazing life they were created to live.
Every life is a journey.
Every journey becomes a story.
My prayer is that you will have the courage to pursue truth with all your heart, discover the reality of God for yourself, and reach the last page of the incredible story you were created to live.
